Dream Circle
August 8, 2009
8pm-10pm
Downtown Napa
We often think of dream work and interpretation as the work of the individual. In Western culture, even when dreams are shared in group-settings, the emphasis is on the meanings and messages as they specifically pertain to the dreamer’s own life. However, in indigenous (more tribal) cultures, the dream is seen as a message for the entire community. As such, it can often present a call to action–some need that the world is calling for through the dream.
Dreams seen in this way are methods for communicating information not only to the dreamer but also to the greater community. At times, this information can come in bits and pieces to different community members, so that the greater picture can only be seen by sharing dreams together, through dream dialogue, and through the unfolding story that many dreams linked together can tell.
Dreams can foretell future events, raise awareness around community issues, call us forth toward sacred relationship, and become a way to work together in a much larger, more complex, and deeper way. But how do we communicate our personal piece to the greater puzzle without a forum to share our dreams? How do we broaden our understanding of the messages that the dream-life presents to us?
In preparation for world-renowned indigenous healer Mandaza Kandemwa’s
annual visit to the Napa-Sonoma area on September 12-16, 2009, we will be holding what we hope to be the first of many dream circles here in Napa, CA.
Please join us August 8, from 8-10 pm, as we light a fire, sit under the stars, and offer up our dreams to the community. Mandaza is a healer, peacemaker, and herbalist from Zimbabwe who speaks around the world about healing and dream work.
Facilitating the dream circle will be two of Mandaza’s Napa contacts and friends, Lisa Gottfried and Conni Piesinger. Conni has facilitated the Goddesses Unite! women’s spirituality circle in Napa since 2005 and has hosted Mandaza’s visits to Napa-Sonoma for the last three years; she is now his International Tour Coordinator. Lisa has been a Professional Intuitive and Reiki practitioner for a number of years and hosted a Dare’ (day-long community healing event) for Mandaza at her home last year. She will again host this year’s Napa Dare’ on September 13, 2009.
Come sit around the fire with us. Bring your dream journals!
